Easter brunch at Chateau Montebello
I
A little history
Yes this is another chateau and Fairmont hotel but sometimes holidays just need a special venu.
This Quebec luxury hotel started out as a 17th century Seigniorial estate that was acquired in 1674 by Quebec’s first Bishop , Bishop Laval.in 1801 it was purchased by the prominent Papineau family and the grand manor still stands on the property and is now a museum open to the public. I
In the 1930 it became a private retreat of the Seigniorial club whose members were prominent business men and pat Canadian Prime Ministers . It also boasted such glamorous dignitaries such as Prince Ranier and Grace Kelly.
In 1970 it was taken over by the Canadian Pacific hotels who renamed it Le Chateau Montebello. The resort project was a dream of a Swiss American Hubert Saddlemire who was inspired by the chateaux of the Swiss alps and dubbed this projectLucerne-in-Quebec.
it was later purchased in 1990 by the Fairmont hotel group. But it was in the 70’s that it opened its doors to the public. The Chateau has hosted the G7 economic Summit and NATO conferences and it’s floors have seen the steps of world leaders fron France, England United States and other countries.
Even school boards ( mine) have used this beautiful tranquil place for educational conferences and it is often used as wedding venusbfor it’s location and cuisine. Which is one of the reasons we chose the Chateau for Easter brunch....while a bit pricey the food and service are exceptional .
Of course as a result we overate but oh my it was so worth it.
Do enjoy the photos and do come and visit Le Chateau Montebello.
